Coolers from Supermarket Hemköp will heat apartments in Farsta

Fortum Värme and Hemköp Farsta Centrum recently signed a contract regarding heat recovery by Open District Heating. In the end of 2016 excess heat from freezers and coolers will be recovered to the district heating network, enabling heating of apartments in Farsta.

Supermarket Hemköp in Farsta Centrum will soon begin to recover their excess by Open District Heating. From the end of this fall, excess heat from freezers and coolers will be recovered by the district heating network. By taken care of excess heat, that otherwise would be fanned away, Hemköp contributes to a sustainable city.

– To reuse waste heat that otherwise would be lost are one of many solutions that Hemköp are investing in as a part of our daily work for a sustainable future, says Fredrik Camitz, merchant at Hemköp in Farsta Centrum.

Fortum Värme welcome another Supermarket to connect to the district heating network through Open District Heating.

– We are happy to work together with Hemköp regarding heat recovery by Open District Heating to the district heating network. This specific supermarket might be the first of many to connect in the future. Excess heat från Hemköp will not only heat apartments in Farsta but also contribute to reduce carbon dioxide emissions of nerly 16 ton per year, says Martin Brolin at Fortum Värme.

This project, heat recovery by Open District Heating at Hemköp, is one of a series of projects within the EU-project GrowSmarter. The idea is to create a ready market for smart solutions to support growth and the transition to a smart, sustainable Europe.
